Teleflip Launches Revolutionary, Free Email to Cell Service
Do you own a cell phone? If so, chances are you have the ability
to send and receive e-mail and short text messages. But, do you know
your cell phone’s e-mail address? Do you know how to email your friends’
cell-phones? Teleflip does.
The patent-pending Teleflip™ service, now available across North
America, allows anyone to send an email to any text enabled cell-phone
without having to actually know the email address or even the name
of the provider.
Before the service launched, sending email to a cell-phone meant
having to know the address for that phone or at the very least, the
service provider. Many cell phone users don’t know their own cell-phone’s
email address, much less which provider their friends and associates
subscribe to.
Teleflip™ takes the guesswork out of addressing emails to mobile
phones by providing one unique domain that anyone can use to contact
any cell-phone, any time. Simply address an email to anycellnumber@teleflip.com
and the message is forwarded to the appropriate cell-phone. The service
is free to use, you don’t have to sign up, and there’s nothing to
register for. It simply “works”.
Following a successful beta launch in December 2003, Teleflip’s user
base has nearly quadrupled itself in a short two-month period. Word
of mouth and news-blog entries have garnered thousands of enthusiastic
users who are finding new ways to put the free service to work. “I
immediately saw its potential in our classes” says one educator, “I
could confirm/cancel appointments, cancel class in an emergency, change
assignments…of course there are other ways of contacting students…but
none so ubiquitous as a student’s cell phone.”
